I chose this picture because it shows someone being trapped, and how we take our freedom for granted. For example in other countries, they don't have the freedom of choice and speech while here, where we live, we can make almost any choice.

this picture shows freedom because it is about a bird who has been captured and kept in a cage but now it has been let go, free to go where it wants with no restrictions. this is like when teenagers leave home, you are freed from your cage as you are expected to become a mature adult and fend for yourself. however, many countries' teenagers are not let out of their cages and never experience freedom.

In the Youtube clip, a Croatian explains how Bono (U2) used a quote from one of the most celebrated Croatian poets when he was performing Miss Sarajevo.
Fair liberty, beloved liberty, liberty sweetly avowed,
thou are the treasured gift that God to us endowed,
all our glory is thy true creation,
to our Home thou are all the decoration,
no silver nor gold, not life itself could replace
the reward of thy pure and sublime grace.

This represents freedom because this man has the freedom to do what ever he wants. He can get a million piercings if he wants, or tattoos all over his face because he's not being restrained. The definition of Freedom is : The power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. This man is a perfect example of this.

Berlin Wall
Over and under and through the Wall they came,
parched with a thirst they couldn't quench.
Tunneling, flying, leaping, crawling, hidden
in car seats and carts, determined to wrench
themselves free from tyranny's stench.
Oppressed, tortured, imprisoned, shot--
still the thirsty would not could not be denied.
The spring of freedom beckoned, so close, so far;
yards, feet, nay inches away they died--
and friends and loved ones cried.
Some made it! a baby hidden in a bag in a cart;
desperate men who leapt on a moving train;
a hollow car seat, tunnels, boats,
a makeshift glider, balloon and plane;
putting an end to the thirst and pain.
And then one day, one wonderful day,
they hammered and shattered and tore down the Wall!
Thirsting, singing, shouting, laughing, hugging,
chunk by chunk they watched it fall--
and the terrible thirst was quenched for all

This poem represents freedom because they are trying to escape from the east of berlin and become free.

Freedom
Dictionary definition of freedom: being free, right or privilege of unlimited access. Free: able to act at will; not forced restrained or imprisoned. No controlled or limited.
This picture has connections to freedom because the hands are letting go of the butterfly, setting it free. The butterfly is no longer being held against its will therefore it’s free. The hands connect to freedom because they aren’t free. They are chained up; restrained. The colours connect to freedom because the whole picture is browny coloured except for the butterfly which has been set free. The butterfly is blue coloured therefore it stands out in the image. Having the butterfly a different colour makes it seems more happy and enlightening, freedom feels like that. The image could mean that even if you are set free the world is still held captive. It could mean this because the butterfly being set free could represent the people set free and the chained up hands could represent the rest of the world being under force.

This is a photo of a Libyan man holding high his country's flag as he and all those around him fight for change. To the Libyans, this symbol that this man is holding proudly has stopped being merely a flag, but a representation of the world that will come after Gaddafi's downfall. It represents a proud, free country where every person has the right to live, think, and act how they want to. A country where people can speak freely and walk proudly; a world where peace rebuilds the strife that almost ripped Libya apart, and where people can change things. Because they have, and are, changing their world underneath this flag of freedom.

"Born Free"
Fast, on a rough road riding
High, through the mountains climbing
twisting, turning further from my home.
Young, like a new moon rising
Fierce, through the rain and lightning
Wandering out into this great unknown.
And I don't want no one to cry.
But, tell 'em if I don't survive
I was born free!
I was born free
I was born free, born free.
Free, like a river raging
Strong as the wind I’m facing.
Chasing dreams and racing father time.
Deep like the grandest canyon,
Wild like an untamed stallion.
If you can’t see my heart you must be blind.
You can knock me down and watch me bleed
But you can’t keep no chains on me.
I was born free!
I was born free
I was born free, born free.
And I'm not good at long goodbyes
But look down deep into my eyes
I was born free.
Calm, facing danger
Lost, like an unknown stranger
Grateful for my time with no regrets
Close to my destination
Tired, frail and aching
Waiting patiently for the sun to set
And when it's done, believe that I
will yell it from that mountain high
I was born free
I was born free
I was born free, born free
I will bow to the shining sea
And celebrate God's grace on thee
This song by Kid Rock talks about how nobody can take your freedom and how God blesses you with the right to be free. It talks about how no matter what you go through you will always be free within yourself. Each person is born with freedom and it is those who chose to embrace it and acknowledge it who will benefit the most from it.
